CFA TIPS

The CFA user manual is not in digital format at this time. In the mean time please refer to these tips, the file cfa.txt, and the example input files provided in the DATA folder of the CFA zip file.

Data for CFA can be either manually input or input directly as export files from the HYDAT CD. The format from HYDAT is extreme daily or extreme instantaneous card format. Once you have exported the files from HYDAT you will have to change the extension of the files to .dat. You will also need to export a header file for the station with the extension .dat.

To perform analysis with the CFA software you have to first set up a H22FLOOD.DAT file which stores the path and data for the header and data files you are going to analyse. To set up this file select the Data Entry option from the CFA main menu then follow these steps.
1. Select either the CD-ROM Annual Maximum Instantaneous Discharges or the Annual Maximum Daily Discharges options (depending on the data type).
2. Select the card format option.
3. You can then accept the default values for the next couple questions.
4. You will then be prompted for the file names and paths for the header and data files. Ensure to rename these files with the proper extensions.
5. Answer yes to save the data to the H22FLOOD.DAT file.
6. Run the analysis using the H22FLOOD.DAT file.
